Meet Dr. Schuyler

Dentistry means so much to me: it allows me to feel fulfilled by what I do, every day, with each patient I see and interact with. Getting to help people keep the teeth they have, or improve their function or aesthetics, is very satisfying!

I have practiced dentistry for more than a dozen years. I decided to pursue a dental career because of my great experience with my orthodontist when I was a kid. I had crooked teeth, which meant I was self-conscious and didn’t like to smile. Besides being a very nice guy, my orthodontist gave me a smile that I was happy to show off. I knew then that I wanted to make the same positive change in the lives of others.

I enjoy working closely with each patient to achieve their desired dental outcome. Whether the person wants straighter teeth, a whiter smile, relief from pain, or to keep their teeth for a lifetime, I love helping individuals achieve their goals!

The Practice and Team

Everyone in our office cares that our patients receive the best care and really work with each patient to give them amazing service. We strive to provide all dental services at one location: We want to make caring for one’s oral health — and one’s family’s smiles — easier!

Our team members are well-trained and highly skilled. They have remarkably positive attitudes and bring enthusiasm and energy to the office. They are part of the community and love serving their neighbors.

Education and Professional Activities

  • Bachelor of Science in biology – Oregon State University
  • Doctorate in Medical Dentistry – Oregon Health & Science University

One of the most exciting aspects of dentistry is how it is constantly advancing. Research leads to technological innovations, new materials, and changes to techniques. I love furthering my knowledge and skills to better serve our patients.

Since receiving my dental degree, I have completed extensive postgraduate courses and participated in study clubs, to learn about orthodontics, Invisalign®, and dental implants. I study current and evolving topics in general dentistry, too.

In addition to Progressive Orthodontic Seminars, I am a member of the:

  • Oregon Academy of General Dentistry – Implant Study Club
  • Sunset Study Club
  • Spear Education Study Club
  • NW CEREC® Study Cub

I am also a member of the:

  • American Dental Association
  • Oregon Dental Association
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • Clackamas County Dental Society
  • Multnomah County Dental Society

Beyond Dentistry

I grew up in Knappa and have lived in Portland for a decade and a half. My wife Nirvana is also a dentist. She owns her own office in Tigard. We have two active young sons, as well as a family dog ... and the boys keep asking for us to add another pup!

We spend a lot of time at the boys’ sporting events and I help to coach most of their teams. As a family, we enjoy skiing, golfing, hiking, and anything else that gets us outdoors.

Personally, I enjoy coaching the boys’ basketball, baseball, and soccer teams. When I have free time, outside of family and running the practice, I get away to the golf course.

I am passionate about being very involved in my kids’ lives; I have jumped into coaching their sports and have really enjoyed the connection with them and our broader community. I am also a passionate Trailblazers fan and love watching their games, whether on TV or — when I’m lucky — at the Moda Center.
